With all these headlines about "laglag bala", luggages being opened, stolen items, lost baggage and frequent delayed flights, do we even bother to check our rights as airline passengers? Did you know that we have a very clear set of rules and regulations favorable to us as passengers? Thing is, some, if not most of us, are not aware of these rights! That's the reason why, as Balikbayans or OFWs, we always become a victim of deceit, hoax and manipulation from these airport criminals. It is now the time for us to spare a few minutes to read and understand all these rights. If you know your rights, nobody could ever fool you, talk you out or deceit you. If it's your right, then you have all the reason to complain and demand for explanation. After all, you are a paying customer. Here is a Summary of Rights of Air Passengers in The Philippines. This is based on the summary made by the Philippine Official Gazette website www.gov.ph blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image blog_174 image Take note of the Lost, Delayed or Damaged Baggage. I remember the time when I went home and my luggage was still in Hong Kong. I was able to claim my luggage after 2 days. No 2000 pesos compensation for this. I also had an experience where my luggage was severely damaged and I really thought it was because EL AL is too strict with luggages that they had to “destroy” everything just to see what’s inside. Well, again, I haven’t received any compensation at all. I’ve also experienced a flight cancellation from Philippines to Hong Kong. We’ve missed our connecting flight to Israel. PAL gave us a free hotel accommodation plus food until the next day. We didn’t complain of course but I was really upset because I didn’t have any extra clothes inside my hand carry. Everything was in my luggage and we were not able to retrieve it since they will transfer everything to our scheduled flight the following day. I had to go to a mall to buy some clothes and underwear. I didn’t even have enough pesos with me since I was already expecting to be in Israel in 15 hours. Lesson Learned: bring extra clothes inside your hand carry. And of course, cellular phone charger too. Please take note of the numbers and emails that you can contact if you have complaints. Remember, you are a paying customer and you are entitled to all these rights. Read and understand them carefully.
