Understanding Your Vacation and Recuperation Benefits in Israel (Updated April 2026)

Understanding Your Vacation and Recuperation Benefits in Israel (Updated April 2026)

If you are a migrant caregiver working in Israel, you work hard every day to care for others. That's why it's important to understand the benefits you have earned under Israeli labor law. Two of the most valuable benefits are paid annual vacation and recuperation pay (Dmei Havra'ah).

The Worker's Hotline has released an updated guide that takes effect starting April 2026. Here's what every caregiver should know.

Paid Annual Vacation

Every employee in Israel, including foreign caregivers, is entitled to paid vacation leave each year.

The number of vacation days you earn depends on how many years you have worked for the same employer.

Vacation Days by Years of Service

Years of Service Vacation Days
1-5 years 14 days
6 years 16 days
7 years 18 days
8 years 19 days
9 years 20 days
10 years 21 days
11 years 22 days
12 years 23 days
13 years and above 24 days

Important: These are calendar days as defined under Israeli labor law.

What Happens If You Don't Use Your Vacation?

Many caregivers choose not to take vacation because they want to continue working or are worried about leaving their employer.

The good news is that your vacation days do not simply disappear.

According to Israeli law:

  • Unused vacation days can accumulate for future use, subject to the legal rules on carrying them over.
  • You should receive payment for your vacation days when you actually take your leave.
  • If you still have unused vacation days when your employment ends, your employer must pay you for the vacation days you have legally accumulated.

In other words, your paid vacation is a legal right. Whether you use the days during your employment or receive payment for eligible unused days when your job ends, those benefits belong to you.
