How Overseas Workers Can Have A Merrier Christmas?

Often called mordern day heroes, Overseas workers once made a choice to sacrifice themselves in order to provide a better life for their families back home.  But it is during the holidays that the sacrifices become more unbearable when they have to be alone and celebrate Christmas away from home.

Though, Overseas Workers in Israel have choices whether they'll go home and spend the holidays with their loved ones, most of them chose to stay in the country because they cannot afford the plane ticket or some preferred to send their money to their families for food and gifts for Christmas.

But, there are some ways to make your Christmas merrier even if you are away from home.

1. Connect with family back home - back in the early 2000, internet communication is not as easy and accessible as today. Overseas workers had to pay for outrageous telephone bills just to connect to their loved ones using the prepaid phone booths somewhere.

But now, communicating with your loved ones and friends is much easier with the help of Skype, Facebook and other instant messaging applications online. Aside from being free, you can also get to see each other online when you both have web cameras.

Spend Christmas with them while they celebrate ahead of you. You may not be there but you get to feel the Christmas vibe by seeing them and hearing their voices.

2. Buy a Gift for Yourself - It's not advisable to splurge on something expensive that you don't even need but if it's just once a year, it won't harm your savings.

Buy something nice for yourself this Christmas. It has not to be very expensive but something that could make you happy and somehow take the Holiday blues away.If not, you can treat yourself to a fine dining restaurant or a wellness spa to relax.

3. Celebrate Christmas with your Friends - we have several Overseas Worker communities all over Israel. You can plan out a Christmas party together with your friends or collegues.

Take time to laugh and celebrate with them. Suggest a wholesome game and exchange gifts with them. This can help you overcome homesickness and holiday blues.

4. Participate in Charity Works - Christmas is not about receiving but giving. And giving doesn't always mean monetary or material things. Sometimes, your time is enough to make a difference.

Overseas workers communities often hold a charity events or medical mission during Christmas season. Schedule a time when you can and volunteer.

5. Learn Something New - it's the best time to be more productive this December. If you are eager to learn to cook a recipe, this is the best time to showcase the recipes you've been wanting to learn. Google and experiment different recipes this Christmas and share your dishes with the parties you'll attend.

Christmas is a Happy Season. Do not make your being away from loved ones a reason not to celebrate and embrace the Holidays. Remember, December is a reminder that another year is coming, a new Hope and a new Beginning. Not just for yourself but for your family as well.

Have a Blessed Christmas!
