If you are interested, Tamar provided a telephone number and email address below. You can contact her anytime if you are willing to share your story with her.
Here is a copy of her letter:
Invitation to participate in research about women migrant workers.
Hello, my name is Tamar Guissin and I am a student at the School of Social Work at Tel Aviv University. I am writing a Thesis that deals with the experience of distant loss among women migrant workers.
The study is led by Professor Ronit D. Leichtentritt. I wish to invite you to take part in this research.
Despite the fact that the population of women migrant workers in Israel is constantly growing, a review of relevant academic literature shows that there are no studies on the significance of the experience of loss experienced by these women. There is a particular lack of research of experiences surrounding the loss of a loved one who died in the country of origin at the time of their stay in Israel, and hence the great importance of this study. Your participation in this study will enable your personal story and the nature of your experience of distant loss to be heard and understood by Israeli society. Your participation in this research will contribute to the development of knowledge and allow an examination of the ways in which help can be given to many women who experience such a loss.
I promise to maintain confidentiality and anonymity, so that your identifying information (or that of others you may mention) will be omitted at the time of publication of the research findings. The interview may deal with sensitive contents. You will be able to, of course, ask to stop it at any time, choose not to answer specific questions or to cancel your participation in the study, for any reason.
I will be available for you for questions at: Telephone:054-9262911 , Email: Tamarguissin@gmail.com
If you agree to participate, I would like to invite you to an interview in either Hebrew or English (depending on the language that you prefer), that will take 1-2 hours, and record what you say so that I could later write it down for the purpose of accurate analysis of your distant loss experience. Looking forward to meet you!
Sincerely, Tamar Guissin.
